Tenby Harbour
Pumping Station Clean

The Celvac team were faced with a large accumulation of fat which took effort and determination.

Picturesque Tenby Harbour sits in a central position in the beautiful Georgian town of Tenby, often known as “The Jewel in Pembrokeshire’s crown”.  Tenby has grown to become Pembrokeshire’s most popular tourist destination and the population can easily quadruple during the summer season with all its visitors.  This brings its own challenges on the sewage infrastructure and so we were tasked to carry out confined space entry to clean the pumping station that supports the harbour’s visitors, fishing and boating community.

Not having cleaned it before, our planning team had to manage a number of challenges, including tight access down to the work area and onlookers curious to know what we were doing.  It was also vital for us to minimise pumping station downtime before it put pressure on the surrounding sewage network system.

The Celvac team were faced with a large accumulation of fat which took effort and determination.  Our confined space entry teams spent 2 days cleaning, supported by our Hypervac combi units and 4000-gallon tankers. Crowd control barriers and pollution prevention measures were crucial to ensuring public safety and environmental protection and we worked closely with our DCWW colleagues to deal with queries and keep access open to the harbour.

It had been a while since the pumping station had been cleaned to such a high standard and is now ready to cope with an influx of tourists to the harbour during 2024.
